Description

Hikari Micro Pellets is a semi-floating, slow-sinking daily staple built specifically for small and mid-sized community fish — the pellet size and feeding behavior are engineered around fish too small to compete for flakes or full-size pellets, so every fish in a mixed tank actually gets fed.

What makes it different

  • Micro-coated granules hold their shape as they sink, which limits nutrient leaching into the water and keeps the tank from clouding — a common issue with soft micro-foods.
  • Krill and spirulina in the formula support natural, vivid coloration without relying on artificial dyes.
  • Slow-sink profile means the pellet passes through the upper and mid water column before settling, so mid-water swimmers and light bottom feeders both get a fair shot at it.
  • Precisely sized granules (roughly 0.6–0.9 mm) improve visibility and intake for small mouths, reducing uneaten food and the ammonia spikes that come with it.

Who it's for

Built for aquarists keeping small-to-medium tropical community species — tetras, rasboras, danios, barbs, livebearers (guppies, platies, mollies), and similar fish under roughly 5–6 cm. It also works well as a supplementary food for juvenile fish that have outgrown fry food but aren't ready for standard-size pellets.

Feeding guidance

Feed a quantity your fish can fully consume within 2–3 minutes, 1–2 times daily. Because the pellets are compact and calorie-dense, it's easy to overfeed by volume — start smaller than you think you need and adjust. Remove uneaten food after feeding if your tank isn't heavily stocked with cleanup crew.

Frequently asked questions

Does Hikari Micro Pellets float or sink?

It's semi-floating and sinks slowly, passing through the mid-water zone before settling — which is why it suits fish that feed at different depths rather than only surface or only bottom feeders.

Will it cloud the water?

The micro-coating on each granule is specifically designed to minimize nutrient leaching, so water clarity is noticeably better than with uncoated crumb-style foods, provided you feed appropriate portions.

Can I feed this alongside other Hikari foods?

Yes — many keepers rotate it with other textures and protein sources through the week rather than feeding one food exclusively, which is a simple way to broaden the nutritional base of a community tank.
