Master Soil is a Japanese active aquarium substrate for planted tanks and shrimp colonies. Instead of sitting inert under your hardscape, it works on your water chemistry from day one — softening pH, GH and KH while feeding plant roots directly with fulvic acid, humic acid and bioavailable minerals. Why Master Soil Behaves Differently

Each granule goes through a multi-stage sintering process in Japan, which gives it far higher porosity than pressed or unfired soils. That porosity does two jobs at once: it becomes an ideal surface for nitrifying bacteria to colonize fast, and it lets the substrate absorb impurities from the water column instead of releasing them — which is why Master Soil doesn't need rinsing before use. The sintering also means the granules hold their shape for years instead of breaking down into compacted mud, and ammonia is released gradually during cycling rather than dumped all at once, so early livestock risk is lower.

How to Use It

1. Don't mix Master Soil with other substrates — use it as a standalone base layer.

3. Fill slowly over a plate or plastic sheet so you don't disturb your layout.
4. Expect mild cloudiness or a thin surface film for the first few days — it clears on its own through filtration.
5. Avoid separate pH/KH-lowering products once it's installed, since combining them with the soil's natural buffering can push parameters further than intended.
